The AOPA “You Can Fly!” Program

The AOPA “You Can Fly!” High School Curriculum

The AOPA You Can Fly! High School Initiative allows you, the student, to explore your curiosities for aviation in a high school classroom. AOPA has developed a four-year aviation curriculum provided free to high schools. The hands-on, inquiry-based approach to the class gives you a true understanding of the fundamentals of flight.

Over the four years, students will learn about aerospace engineering principles, problem-solving, aerospace engineering, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), flight safety, instrumentation, flight planning, forces of flight, careers in aviation, airport operations, weather, and entrepreneurship, as well as a number of other aviation-related topics.

Although there are four years of course offerings, it is important to note that students do not need to make a four-year commitment to start the program. The AOPA curriculum is a free program that is designed to help you decide if you want to pursue a career in aviation in a high school environment.

Please see the AOPA website for more information

If your school does not currently offer the AOPA course, please pass the website information along to your teacher or administrator so they may learn more about it.
